SOUTH AFRICAN Airways will resume its flights to Kinshasa in the Demo-cratic Republic of Congo two years after suspending the service because of security risks. The tentative date for the first flight is October 1 this year. SAA has been granted the right to operate three flights a week, but will commence with two. The last SAA flight to Kinshasa was in September 1999. With the conflict in the DRC having now stabilised, freight forwarders and transporters in general have stated that trade with the Congo has resumed on a satisfactory basis and that business trends have shown constant growth in recent months. While road transport is favoured for bulk consignments, the airline's limited cargo space will offer capacity for urgent supplies and courier requirements.
