SOUTH AFRICAN Airways Cargo has extended its international express service network to include the Johannesburg - Frankfurt, London, Atlanta, New York, Accra, Bangkok, Perth and Sao Paulo routes, as well as Cape Town to London and return. Priority retrieval at destination is a feature of both the small parcel and bulk express services. The airline has also put its money where its mouth is in terms of commitment to service delivery. Customers will be refunded in full for small items - maximum 30kgs - not flown as booked. There is a 90-minute lodgement time prior to the standard time of departure and smaller express parcels will also be accepted as cargo without prior booking. “In the event of a bulk parcel not being flown as booked, we will provide a 15% refund and fly the cargo free on the next flight for bulk express cargo,” says Tleli Makhetha, executive vice president and general manager. Here bookings must be made a minimum of eight hours prior to the standard time of departure with a 180 minute lodgement time. While there are no weight restrictions, dimension of the cargo must conform to the aircraft’s door size for both smaller and bulk express packages. Livestock, human remains, dangerous goods and valuable cargo are excluded from the new express service due to handling procedures that require longer lodgement times, he added. “We are looking to add Hong Kong and Milan in the near future,” said Makhetha.
