SOUTH AFRICA continues to be Zimbabwe's biggest supplier,
accounting for more than 30% of imports. Despite the political war of words waged by Harare over the past year, trade between the two countries rose 32% in Zimbabwe dollar terms and 9% in rand terms.
Since 1990, imports from South Africa have risen from 20% to 38% of the total. At the same time the trade gap, the cause of
so much resentment in Zimbabwe, has grown, reaching R2 billion last year in South Africa's favour from R200 million in 1990.
