South Africa will receive the first shipment of 50 000 tonnes of white maize from Mexico next month, with five more shipments expected between September and December.
Online news site, The Africa Trade Report, cited the South African Grain Information Service as saying that SA would import white maize from Mexico and Zambia in a bid to bulk up waning local stocks due to a severe drought
The local maize harvest is projected to be a third less than last season's produce of 14.25 million tonnes of white maize.
