The South Africa Revenue Service (Sars) announced on Friday that SA had recorded a trade deficit of R3.43 billion for April.

This contrasts with a surplus of R1.88 billion in April 2018.

The deficit is a result of the imbalance in exports (R103.75 billion) and imports (R107.18 billion).

“Exports decreased from March 2019 to April 2019 by R1.34 billion (1.3%) and imports increased during the same period by R6.79 billion (6.8%),” according to Sars.
