South Africa has recorded a trade balance surplus of R0.43 billion in February according to statistics released by the South African Revenue Service (Sars).
The country’s exports amounted to R90.59 billion, an increase of 12% from January 2018, while imports - at R90.16 billion – were down 16.5%.
For the period 1 January to 28 February this year, the country recorded a trade balance deficit of R26.69 billion - a significant deterioration on the deficit of R7.59 billion for the comparable period in 2017. Year-to-date exports and imports have registered growth of 3.1% and 14% respectively.
Year-on-year exports rose by 4.6% and imports by 9.3%. All trade statistics include trade data with Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland.
Exports from South Africa to all regions showed significant growth while imports from all regions registered a significant drop.
