Anna Cox A FREE trade agreement (FTA) is likely to be concluded between South Africa and India by the end of next year. A draft proposal for the FTA was submitted by the Indian Government to the South African Department of Trade and Industry last month. Although the details are still confidential, the proposal covers all sectors of the economy including industry, agriculture and consumer goods. Sectors in both countries which are likely to benefit are the automative, defence and engineering industries. India already has an FTA with Sri Lanka and is exploring the possibility of establishing more with other countries.
