The South African Post Office’s (Sapo) joint business rescue practitioners have announced the resumption of international mail services to the US, Japan and Europe.

Joint business rescue practitioners Anoosh Rooplal and Juanito Damons said in a statement on Tuesday that the services had resumed last week.

This follows negotiation with partner airlines, since the ratification of their appointments by creditors as joint business rescue practitioners on 24 July.

The post office’s partner airlines had not been paid their service fees which earlier led to air services being terminated.

An agreement for payment of arrears as well as on an ongoing payment plan with one partner airline, who handles the post office’s Europe, Japan and US destinations, has been agreed to, the business rescue practitioners said.

The initial international shipments will assist in clearing up the backlog of international mail and parcels and serve customers’ requirements to post mail and parcels internationally.

Outgoing international Airmail services include Expedited Mail Service, Airmail parcels and Airmail Registers, which can be tracked via the Sapo website.

“The postal service offers the most affordable way of moving parcels between countries, and we trust that this news is well received by our international mailing clients,” Rooplal said.

The BRPs are continuing to negotiate with other airlines to include additional international destinations.
