South African iron ore exports dropped by 2.3% during the month of May this year, totalling 6.40 million tonnes, compared to May 2014’s recorded figure of 6.55 million tonnes.
News reports cited “official data” as noting that China was the largest export destination for the commodity, followed by India.
Hellenic Shipping News reported that the cumulative iron ore exports during the initial five months of the year showed an overall slight decline over the previous year, with total exports between January to May 2015 amounting to 27.24 million tonnes.
This is nearly 4.4% down from last year’s figure of 28.49 million tonnes for the same period.
