Rock drilling parts ‘General’ customs duty increase

On 24 July 2026, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) announced an increase in the ‘General’ rate of customs duty in Part 1 of Schedule No1 of the Customs and Excise Act, 1964 (Ordinary Customs Duty) on rock drilling equipment parts, classifiable in tariff subheading 8467.99.90, from free of duty to 20% ad valorem.

The reasoning is articulated in the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) Report No. 774. At the time of writing, the report was not available.
