Robust packaging withstands rigours of all modes

KEVIN MAYHEW DESPITE THE rapid evolution of packaging solutions into a separate speciality area within the supply chain mix, packaging standards for moving freight via road or rail remain the same. Marketing director of Outsource Packaging, Brett Vaughan, says there is nothing that distinguishes packaging for road, rail or sea transportation. “The demand nowadays is for the most robust, weather resistant and convenient packaging and crating of goods regardless of the mode of transportation,” he explains. Furthermore, he adds that present demand for transportation into harsh areas like Africa automatically standardises packaging solutions to withstand extreme conditions - making them even more effective in “softer” environments. Much of what is now transported into Africa is delicate and for the telecommunications sector, which calls for a specific focus on hardy packaging. Outsource Packaging is based in Wadeville and is looking to open branches in Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth, with Durban being the focal point for the opening of a branch in the port and industrial area. The company builds specialised packaging for individual consignments.
