Transmax Logistics is extending its services in Africa with the opening of an office in Harare, Zimbabwe. The office, expected to be fully operational by early next January, follows the opening of an office in Johannesburg. According to head of operations Vivian Govender, expansion of the existing truck fleet should also be complete by the end of the year. “We have seen phenomenal growth and are expanding drastically to ensure we can continue to serve the sub-Saharan sector effectively,” said Govender. “There is a great demand for the transportation of cargo by road directly from Durban to Africa. At Transmax Logistics we offer a costeffective, reliable option to clients.” Govender says while transporting in Africa is often hampered by communication and infrastructure problems, it just means companies have to be more efficient in the service they offer. “Zimbabwe, for instance, is one country where it is impossible to plan ahead. It means that we can never be late when we transport to and from there as one never knows what is going to happen at the border control. We have to be on top of our game.” Equipped to handle any type of cargo, Transmax Logistics bring loads into South Africa while sending out to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Swaziland on a regular basis. “In many of the African countries people cannot afford to buy 34-ton loads. We specialise in ten ton loads and have found a niche in the market that we service.” Govender believes more South African companies will venture into Africa as the local market has become saturated. “As a market Africa continues to grow, offering many opportunities to the local businessmen.”
