Ongoing transformation efforts at SA Cargo are yielding results, with the company now a wholly-owned South African entity.Speaking to Freight News, Hans Modipane, executive for logistics, highlighted the significant changes the Durban-headquartered company had undergone in recent years."We've undergone a complete rebranding, which has been well received by the industry," Modipane stated. "Our American partners are no longer involved in the business, and SA Cargo is now owned, operated, and managed by South Africans. The executive team and management’s involvement in shareholding is particularly noteworthy, as it signifies the realisation of internal empowerment initiatives."Over the past four years, the company has also experienced significant growth, expanding its reach by opening new divisions, such as its clearing and forwarding department, courier division and a training academy, which has now also received accreditation with the Quality Council for Trades & Occupations (QTCO) for the Occupational Certificate for Freight handler NQF Level 3. "Initially, our clearing and forwarding activities were outsourced, but we are now in the process of bringing that completely in-house and have obtained all necessary licensing," he said.Additionally, the company's automotive logistics portfolio has grown.Modipane said the company planned to expand its warehousing arm and courier service. "Diversity has become crucial, and we've positioned the business to capitalise on this," he said. "We will continue to invest in our operations moving forward, aiming to become one of the leading players in the southern African market.
