Transport operators are as ready as they ever will be for the imminent tolling of Gauteng’s roads. According to Gavin Kelly, spokesman for the Road Freight Association, while there are still many members who have yet to purchase an eTag to qualify for the discount, there are also many who have already made the purchase. “In true South African style there are some that are waiting for the very last minute to see what happens around the court cases and other legal processes. Others, however, have bought the eTags and are ready for e-tolling,” he told FTW. He said from an RFA point of view they were happy that members were well informed about the process and were in a position to make a decision based on knowledge. “The industry is well enough informed about e-tolling, its expected costs and impact,” he said. “As an industry we are ready for e-tolling.”
