PORTNET'S IMPORT section of the Richards Bay Dry Bulk Terminal (DBT) recently set a new record by offloading 26 345 tons of coking coal for Iscor in 24 hours from the 124 817 dwt bulk vessel Georgios T. The coking coal was shipped from the USA. This record was achieved by offloading 1 062 tons per hour as against the norm of 530 tph. The Port of Richards Bay attributed this to the hard work of the three Portnet and National Stevedores shifts involved, with the aid of the Demag and new Caillard grab unloaders, as well as the Nelcon and Liebherr mobile cranes.
