Torrential rains
have affected both
infrastructure and port
operations at the Port
of Mombasa where at
times there have been
more than 20 vessels
waiting to berth in
recent weeks.
“The handling of
grain, sugar, fertilisers,
clinker, steel and coal is
most severely affected.
But due to the poor state
of the roads, trucks are
taking as long as six
hours to reach the port
and truck turnaround
time has been heavily
hampered,” according
to the Kenya Ports
Authority.
Damage to the roads
has affected the flow of
road traffic – on which
the port relies for up to
95% of its deliveries.
