Rail progress is too slow

THE DISMAL state of South Africa’s rail service was an issue on which there was universal consensus at last week’s green supply chain conference. Nosipho Damasane, general manager: sales, logistics and commercial at Transnet Port Terminals was perhaps unfairly placed in the hot seat on this issue. She explained that Transnet was consolidating all its service offerings and that R35 billion of its R80 billion budget had been allocated to improving rail.
