Aberdare Cables South Africa on Thursday launched its R135 million high voltage power-cable plant in Port Elizabeth, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competitions (dtic) has revealed.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, dtic minister Ebrahim Patel said that the multimillion rand plant was a vote of confidence for the Eastern Cape economy.
“There is a bigger message that investors believe in the country and believe that there is an enormous opportunity,” Patel said.
According to Aberdare Cables chief executive Haiyan Song, 58 additional jobs will be created in addition to the current 429 jobs.
The facility is projected to be fully operational at the end of this month.
