Alan Peat ANOTHER VICTIM of the poor rates on the Far East run has pulled out of its slot charter agreement with NYK in the Good Hope Express (GEX) service. Quadrant Container Line, a member of the Grincor group, has decided to call it a day. "It is one of the lines which has found that low rates and a lack of internal economies of scale just don't work particularly when you're competing with major multi-trade lines," said an inside source. Said the official letter to customers: "It is with regret that - due to the extremely difficult conditions in certain of our trades - we have decided to discontinue our services in the Far East/ SA/South America trade, and the Indian sub-continent/ SA trade. "Any bookings that have already been confirmed by us will be attended to." However, the line's service covering East Africa, SA and West Africa on the Mombasa to Luanda range of ports is on a different foot. "It is in a strong position and most certainly continuing."
