Pro-Con launches 48-hour service to Zambia

MAY 1 sees the launch by Germiston-based overborder specialists Professional Consolidators of a 48-hour express roadfreight service from Johannesburg to Lusaka in Zambia.
Initially it will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays with frequency to be upgraded as demand warrants.
We are trying to compete with airfreight at roadfreight rates. In addition the shipper has greater flexibility in that he can deliver his goods to our premises a few hours before the trucks depart, says Pro-Con's Tony Wells. If you take into account the longer cut-off times for airfreight, our transit times are extremely competitive.
There are several industries which have indicated that there is a requirement for a service of this nature, says Wells. Construction, the motor industry, plant and equipment and the pharmaceutical industry are prime examples.
The service will carry two 6m containers with cargo payload of 18 tons using the Botswana route to Zambia, which has been chosen to avoid customs delays.
Pro-Con was established eight years ago and has, until now, specialised in roadfreight consolidations to Zimbabwe and Botswana, which are served daily.
The service must be so predictable that you can hang your hat on it, says Wells.
Pro-Con has linked up with Hill & Delamain in Zambia, who will clear and distribute the cargo when it reaches Lusaka, providing an all-inclusive service.
