DEPARTMENT OF Minerals and Energy director-general Sandile Nogxina says that in order to “gear up” the ports of Cape Town and Saldanha to become the servicing hub of the lucrative West African oil and gas business, R1,4 billion has been earmarked for the upgrade of associated infrastructure.
This he told delegates to OilAfrica 2004, the first sub-Saharan oil, gas and petrochemicals exhibition and conference, held recently at the new Cape Town International Conference Centre.
Cape Town port manager Sanjay Govan says he is in no doubt the Mother City has the capability to provide the necessary products and services “but a lof of companies in Europe and the US still do not know about us and this conference and exhibition is intended to showcase what we are able to deliver.”
