A DELEGATION of top city and Portnet officials will visit Malaysia next month in an attempt to secure for South Africa the venue for the 2003 World Conference on Ports.
Mayor Obed Mlaba and senior Portnet officials say they intend to sway the decision in favour of Durban as the host city and port for this influential conference.
Mlaba denied suggestions that he would be standing as a candidate for parliament in the forthcoming elections, saying he intends remaining as mayor of the city to help the city implement planned projects. These include the new airport at La Mercy, the Durban Waterfront, and large harbour projects.
