Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the rehabilitation and widening of the Port View Road on the West Bank side of the Port of East London.

TNPA said on Thursday that the rehabilitated road would accommodate trucks carrying grain to the West Bank Foreshore, Tanker berth and Grain Elevator operations.

The port development project entails the construction of the road and all associated services over a nine-month period.

“The required works include the rehabilitation and widening of roadway from approximately 6m to 8.6m surfaced width along Port View Road, the construction of a lane for truck staging which will include full depth excavation as well as pavement construction,” TNPA said.

“To ensure efficient traffic management with the port, the scope of works includes establishing alternative routes for truck operations to ease traffic during the construction period,” TNPA said.

East London port manager, Sphiwe Mthembu, said that the project is instrumental in the port’s growth strategy which seeks to sustain the current cargo volumes being transported through Port View Road.

RFP documents can be accessed via www.etender.gov.za https://transnetetenders.azurewebsites.net

and https://www.cidb.org.za/cidbtenders/current-tenders/

The deadline for submission of tender offers 3pm on 22 September 2023.
