Transnet chairperson Popo Molefe has said that he has noted with concern “misleading and inaccurate media reporting on the pending appointment of its chief executive officer and other executives”.
This follows after it was reported yesterday that a statement in this regard was imminent.
In an official statement issued by the state-owned enterprise, Molefe said that “while the appointment of these important positions is in the public interest, Transnet urges the media to be sensible and not indulge in rash assumptions, which might unnecessarily jeopardise the process”.
The statement furthermore added that its board of directors “would like to categorically state that there is no conflict between itself and the shareholder, Minister Pravin Gordhan, on the pending appointment of the CEO as purported by the media.”
According to Molefe “the appointing process has not been yet finalised.
Once the new CEO is announced, it will bring to a close a recruitment process that commenced last May.
