P&O NEDLLOYD has ended the second quarter with an operating profit of $46 million (R382m), an improvement of $2 million (R16,6m) compared to the equivalent quarter last year says P&O Nedlloyd MD, Nigel Pusey. The total operating profit for the first half of 2001 is $77 million (R639m), an improvement of $47 million (R390m) compared to the first half of last year. "Overall volumes were 4% higher than the same period last year but there was a 3% drop on the Europe/ Asia trades," Pusey told FTW. "Our Southern African volumes have however been particularly robust with a good start to our new Far East service and volumes on the European service holding up strongly," he added.
