Dingsheng International Investment plans to invest the equivalent of R4.5-billion on a project to set up a duty free zone in the city of Beira, in Mozambique’s Sofala province, said the Office for Accelerated Development Economic Areas (Gazeda), reports macauhub.

The Chinese company’s project, which was approved by the Mozambican government in 2012, is expected to be called the Manga-Mungassa Special Economic Zone and will be part of the recently created Beira Agricultural Development Corridor, which is intended to expand the irrigation system and fund start-up agricultural companies.

According to newspaper Notícias Gazeda, 217 hectares of land was available for the initiative, which would include construction of warehouses for goods, tourist resorts and installation of industrial units.

As well as this initiative a negotiation process is underway for three new investment projects for the Nacala Special economic Zone, in Nampula province, and in the Beluluane Industrial Park, in Maputo.

Without giving further details, Gazeda noted that the three projects would represent a total investment of around R45.4 million.
