THE PORT Elizabeth Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PERCCI), in conjunction with local economist Dr Neal Bruton, plan to develop a Business Confidence Index(BCI) for the Port Elizabeth-Uitenhage Metropole. The development of such an index on a regional level will be a first for South Africa, according to Bruton.
PERCCI aims to undertake the project as a value-added business venture and not as an academic exercise. We want to be able to assist companies who are looking at investing capital or expansions in their business enterprises. The BCI will clearly indicate the current economic trends and activity in the region, thereby assisting businesses with their planning and decision making processes, Bruton said.
