PE pipped as next growth node

RAY SMUTS FRESH PRODUCE Terminals has recorded a successful season, according to MD Ronnie Kingwill, who believes it has played a “pivotal role” as co-ordinator for the Northern Cape’s early grape exports and the facilitation of both the Cape-based USA citrus and Durban-based citrus sterilisation markets to Japan - both of which have laid the foundation for the current season. “Cape Town has once again played a critical role this year by co-ordinating the 37 000-pallet USA citrus steri-programme as well as capturing the Korean steri-programme, while Durban managed to achieve volume forecasts despite an initial late start to their season.” Port Elizabeth had a “bumpy ride”this season but he firmly believes it will become the “next major fruit growth node” in South Africa.
