Package deal absorbs the hassle for tank container users

WHEN A COMPANY the size of Sasol urgently needs a tank container for a special service, they don't rush out and buy or lease one.
They turn their problem over to us, says Malcolm Drysdale, managing director of M&S Shipping. That is what you call outsourcing, especially when it comes to handling hazardous and dangerous cargo.
We are the outsource recipient, yet at the same time we do our own share of outsourcing because we don't run our own depots. We have supplies available, be it in Durban, Rotterdam or any other port in the world.
Chemical shippers, he says, are faced with the dilemma of high costs and insufficient security when utilising standard 210 litre drums for the transportation of goods.
They can go out and buy or lease 80 of these and still have only 16 000 litre space available to them, and certainly not the special security and strength provided by a 24 000 litre tank container.
Shipping lines don't keep either type of container, and those who outsource this type of operation to us find they don't have the costs of cleaning and servicing their own equipment as well as having to pay insurance and storage costs on them.
We are the provider of a package which absorbs all of that.
