AN 18-wheeler truck that lost control and caused the deaths of eight people in KwaZulu-Natal last week has been described as ‘an explosion waiting to happen’. KZN Transport, Safety and Community Liaison MEC Bheki Cele says action will be taken against the owner of the Twin Trucking vehicle which was en route from the Free State to Durban harbour. A forensic investigation revealed faulty breaks and missing nuts and bolts which, if not replaced, can render any vehicle unsafe. The owner is said to have referred the MEC to his lawyer. “I will be in consultation with the legal adviser so that appropriate action can be taken against the owner,” he added.
