The South African Police Service (Saps) arrested a 38 year old South African citizen yesterday (Wednesday) after he was found with two suitcases filled with over R10 million undeclared currency at the Cape Town International Airport.
Customs officials impounded the currency and the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Unit members were summoned for further investigations.
“Obviously our probe in this will be to determine the trail and origin of the money,” said acting provincial head of the Hawks, brigadier Neil Oliver. “We cannot rule out unearthing illicit activities as we go along.”
The suspect was allegedly en route to the United Arab Emirates.
