Not content with being the top-performing container port in southern Africa as ranked by the World Bank’s Container Terminal Performance Index, Beira port concessionaire Cornelder de Moçambique (CdM) aims to be among the best in the world. In a media release issued after the publication of the index, CdM said: “Our target, however, is not to be the best of southern Africa, but rather, to compete for efficiency with the best terminals in the world. Competing on ship turnaround time as a port with entry and exit restricted to two tidal windows per day is not easy. “But we will continue to invest in people, infrastructure and new equipment and will deploy our own systems and those of third parties to improve our efficiency.“We will also do all we can, together with other port stakeholders and the regional authorities, to make the Beira Corridor as a whole increasingly efficient.”In the latest index, the Beira container terminal improved its performance by 47 places, from 270th to 223rd out of a total of 348 ports assessed worldwide.CdM attributes this performance to “the strong investment that we have made in human resources, infrastructure, equipment and systems, as well as in improving the efficiency of the Port of Beira”
