One-stop shipping guide adds electronic info dimension

THE MOST successful companies will be those that price on the basis of how much it actually costs to fulfil a shipper's needs, not what the market will bear. That's the view of Jane Boyes, editorial director of Containerisation International 2001, the one-stop reference source of the shipping industry now in its 32nd year of publication. In her introductory review, "E-commerce heralds sea change for liner shipping", Boyes notes that the rash of electronic marketplaces, offering a variety of auction, exchange and other services, have underscored the fact that shippers increasingly want a neutral electronic interface with their service providers. The 2001 edition includes major updates to its reference sections - in some cases up to 90% - which make up the majority of the yearbook pages. The 'Container Industry Websites' directory section now carries over 1400 web and internet addresses. In addition, full contact details for the 5000 companies listed under their separate industry sections include email addresses as well as websites. The 783-page hard cover book is published by UK-based Informa Maritime and Transport. Further information is available from Sarah Witts in the UK.
