Disappointing news for the new port, DP World London Gateway, as a major UK retailer pulls out of plans to create a new R7 billion distribution centre.
Marks & Spencer (M&S) – whose involvement in the centre was described as a “major milestone” – has dropped plans to house clothing, homeware and gifts at the complex before being transported to the company’s stores in the UK and overseas.
Port Technology reported that it was anticipated that the 900 000 square foot warehouse would have generated as many as 700 jobs.
M&S said it has “developed an alternative plan”.
One in the eye for London Gateway
