On the ball!

TERRY HUTSON AN 87-ton ball mill that arrived on board the project cargo vessel Beluga Efficiency presented little problem to the team awaiting its arrival at Durban harbour Ð the mill was the only cargo on the ship for Durban when it arrived from Brazil at the weekend. Getting the massive mill to its destination at Port Shepstone is however another question which will present more than a few headaches for Natro Freight, as the abnormal load is carefully manoeuvred along the streets of Durban leading to the freeway south. That will only take place in early November however owing to the unavailability of a suitable trailer for the 4.2m wide, 15m long piece of machinery. The mill will be used at NPCÕs Simuna site at Oribi Gorge in the manufacture of cement, a commodity in great demand at this time. Taking care of the unusual cargo were ships agents Mainport Africa, with Safcor Panalpina handling the forwarding at the South African end, P&O Ports the stevedoring and Bateman as engineers for the project.
