JFM Logistics has been appointed as a national depot to receive and store empty containers, according to the company's operations director, Michael- Anthony Shadiack."Our Cape Town depot has spearheaded this initiative, and we eagerly anticipate our other depots joining in," he told Freight News. “The company has ventured into container trading, recognising its vast potential for expansion. With the acquisition of 446 high-cube containers, followed by strategic sales, we've retained a substantial inventory. This enables us to offer affordable rates for container rental, facilitating secure storage and efficient cargo transport for our valued customers."According to Shadiack, the company is committed to consistently expanding its service portfolio to meet clients' evolving needs. "While our current packaging and crating needs are handled by trusted suppliers with whom we've cultivated strong relationships, we aim to integrate this service into our offerings shortly. This strategic addition will enable us to provide comprehensive turnkey solutions, conveniently available under one roof."With demand for containers at its highest and set to continue increasing globally, the decision to move into the container trade was strategic."The container industry is extremely dynamic. Over the past few months, we have been exposed to the potential and realise the opportunities for this sector. It is simple mathematics. Increasing populations lead to increased demand for everything. More imports, more exports, ultimately mean more shipping containers."The growing use of these containers for storage purposes or as innovative housing solutions further amplifies the demand, presenting promising opportunities for expansion.JFM Logistics has noticed that more companies are using containers as a form of mobile storage. "We have seen a recent surge in customer requests for containers to be delivered empty directly to the customer's premises as a mobile storage solution. This approach allows clients to pack the containers at their own pace, liberating valuable factory space. We retrieve the containers only after they're fully packed, delivering them to the client's customers as needed. Once emptied, the containers return to the client's yard to start the process again," said Shadiack.
