DURBAN'S CONTAINER terminal congestion has worked to the benefit of East London. NYK Line diverted its eastbound sailing of the CSAV 'Hong Kong' to East London last week and offloaded all Durban-bound cargo from Santos (South America). Future sailings of the weekly service may be diverted in the same way if the congestion continues.
The cargo consigned for Durban was to be transhipped on available vessels.
NYK Line vessels call at East London after their Durban call on schedule from the Far East en route to South America, but Durban is normally their only South African call eastbound from Santos.
