TRANSNET BOSS Saki Macozoma is to take over the position of ousted Portnet executive director Sipho Nyawo until a replacement can be found, Portnet sources told FTW last week. Nyawo was dismissed after an independent inquiry found him guilty of misusing company credit cards.

Macozoma was told to manage the portfolio by Public Enterprises minister Stella Sigcau until a replacement could be found. It is unlikely the change of leadership will affect the operations of the ports authority, or threaten the recently announced R1-bn capital expansion programme.

Sigcau may appoint a replacement from the ranks of Transnet, but it is expected to take several months before an announcement is made. One of those tipped for the post is SAA executive director Mike Myburgh. Another possibility is current Durban port manager Bax Nomvete.
