FACED WITH the problem of a steadily disappearing fence around the perimeter of Cape Town airport as locals helped themselves to the ready supply of building material, the Airports Company adopted an unconventional approach which has eclipsed the efforts of conventional security services.
Surrounding squatter communities were employed to patrol the perimeter fencing, which has since remained intact, with theft a thing of the past.
