On December 15, 2021, South African Airways (SAA) resumed operations to a key West African market, Lagos, Nigeria. The airline operates a three-times-weekly widebody service from Johannesburg to Lagos.

The Lagos-Johannesburg route serves a key economic link between the two countries, and the relaunch of service between the economic hubs is a vital part of SAA’s gradual growth strategy. SAA has been flying to Nigeria for 23 years and the resumption of the service, after emerging from a business rescue process, is a welcome addition for economic growth and connectivity of the African continent. Lagos boasts one of the largest travel markets in Africa, which presents further opportunities within the continent as Covid-19 restrictions start to ease.

Lagos is a significant exporter of food items and accessories. SAA Cargo’s regional sales manager, Nontobeko Mohube, says, “The support from the Nigerian market has been growing steadily and this success is attributed to the long-standing relationship that SAA has and continues to uphold with the freight community in both South Africa and Nigeria.”

Sky Logistics in Nigeria, a GSA partner of SAA Cargo, continues to play a central role in facilitating trade relations between SAA Cargo and its customers in Nigeria. The strong collaboration between SAA corporate office in Nigeria and Sky Logistics continues to provide SAA Cargo and its customers with reliability and the commitment to deliver exceptional customer service.

SAA Cargo is the airfreight division of South African Airways and provides an integrated global distribution network and terminal services for purposes of cargo air transportation logistics. The division’s integrated services offer global trade links between South Africa’s major cities and the regional markets covering Africa and Europe.
