Kevin Mayhew CONSTRUCTION HAS begun on extensions to the Wesbank Transport vehicle depot in Walvis Bay that will match if not better anything in Africa when completed, says director EP van Rooyen. Taking shape alongside the much smaller existing Wesbank Transport head office and depot is four hectares of development. It will boast its own advanced weighbridge, integrated synchronised fuel systems, maintenance facilities, a patented tarpaulin removal facility, and even satellite tracking for its vehicles which extends to fault diagnosis on the road as the company services Namibia, Johannesburg and Cape Town. According to Van Rooyen the company is establishing the facility to meet anticipated future needs. Its pace of development will be determined by the vagaries of its operating climate. “Problems in industries are influences that we cannot factor into our initial planning, but we are prepared to gradually introduce services that will make the facility something exceptional for us and our sub-contractors,” he explained. Already in place are the weighbridge and fuelling facilities, the new head office building and the satellite tracking infrastructure. The new facility will also enable the handling of bulk cargoes and provide secure parking space for its 70 vehicles at times like Christmas when most of them are not operating,” he explained.
