New US service adds option

FRENCH LINE CMA CGM has teamed up with Hapag Lloyd to provide a new fortnightly service between the US Gulf, and Brazil via Mexico, the Caribbean and Venezuela from the end of this month. It will offer southern African shippers a new transhipment option to New Orleans off the weekly CMA CGM service between South Africa and Brazil. The service will deploy 3 ships of 1100 x 6 m container capacity, according to Roderick Eaton, marketing manager of ISS-Voigt, local agents for CMA CGM. "New Orleans has long been the preferred port for local exporters because of its efficiency and connections," says Eaton. "It offers fast and cost-efficient cargo handling with links by rail, road or canal to all points in the United States.
