New trends create new challenges for recruitment agencies

IN ITS three-year history JorDan HR, a recruitment agency established in July 2004 and specialising in freight and logistics, has experienced “phenomenal growth”, according to managing consultant, Lionel Barry. It has led to an equally rapid expansion of the company, he added, with JorDan having grown to 11 consultants to meet the increasing demands of recruitment in the industry. “The growth has not only been a result of freight recruitment,” Barry told FTW, “but also support functions such as finance and office support.” However this expansion comes with challenges. “Some of the current challenges in the recruitment industry are a skills shortage; candidates falsifying their CVs; and lately a new trend of candidates using agencies to increase their current salaries with their employer, and reneging on signed offers because of counteroffers.” This requires a more microscopic examination of candidates and their claims, according to Barry. “We are continually striving to find innovative methods of sourcing and screening candidates to meet clients’ different needs,” he said. He’s also excited about the future growth of the company. “We are currently busy obtaining the Association of Personnel Service Organisations (Apso) accreditation and, in compliance with the broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) guidelines, we are a category level 4 contributor.”
