Transnet has commissioned four new tractors for the Port of Saldanha, bringing the total number of workhorses to eight. According to Almondo Paulser, Transnet procurement manager, the first four tractors were delivered at the end of 2012, with a further four on order. Supplied by Terberg Tractors, they are tailor-made for Transnet and have a Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of up to 115 tons. The lifting capacity of the 5th wheel can be as high as 36 tons. According to Thabo Zulu of Eqstra Equipment, the distributors of the Terberg tractors in southern Africa, the tractors are top-of-the-range and have been awarded best in class performance for driver comfort and safety.
