New Swazi flyover eases access to Matsapha

James Hall SWAZILAND Ð King Mswati's dedication of a R40 million flyover bridge at the Matsapha Industrial site outside Manzini as part of the recent national Independence Day celebrations has eased a major transportation headache by relieving congestion and lessening accident risk. The bridge replaces a controversial traffic circle that had channeled traffic to various routes, and brought the Manzini to Mbabane highway to an abrupt halt at Matsapha, giving the route a reputation as being one of the worst designed highways in Southern Africa. All major trucking firms and Swazi subsidiaries of South African road haulers and express freight companies are headquartered at Matsapha. Road transport lobbying was a key factor in prompting government to build the flyover bridge.
