New Saudi sea/air deal to upscale logistics

Omar Hariri, CEO OF Saudi Cargo, signs a JV with Rayan Qutub, the CEO of King Abdullah Economic Port.

Saudi Arabian logistics has taken another step towards expanding its service offering in the Middle East with the announcement that Saudi Airlines Cargo Company has entered into a joint venture (JV) with the recently established King Abdullah Port.

Signed in King Abdullah Economic City north of Jeddah on the Red Sea coast, the JV has been described as aiming to “enhance collaboration opportunities and establish a secure logistical operations zone”.

A press statement about the agreement said that it would “establish an air-sea-air cargo corridor with the surrounding airports to ensure the smooth flow of cargo to the port and re-export it by air”.

The development forms part of Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030” whereby the country is striving to become an international logistics hub.

Transportation, logistics, supply and information exchange all from part of the agreement, Saudi Cargo has stated.

The company’s CEO, Omar Hariri, said “the agreement plays a pivotal role in the flow and the transportation of cargoes from the port to the Saudi Cargo station at King Abdulaziz International Airport”.
