SAFCOR PANALPINA has moved from its Selby offices to a new address in Barbara Road, Isando marking the departure of the last of the major forwarding companies from central Johannesburg. Safcor shares the new premises with Renfreight, which was acquired two months ago, and which relocated from Braamfontein. “It makes sense. It was just too much to fit us all into the old Selby building and, anyway, it places us right where we should be, midway between the airport and the railhead,” says Safcor Panalpina chairman and managing director Philip Womersley. The company purchased the building and had it renovated to meet the size of the staffs of both organisations. “Safcor’s airfreight business has been expanding tremendously in recent months,” he said. “Operating with Swiss Global Cargo we are the only forwarder which runs a full airfreight charter service into this country, with three dedicated flights a week from Luxembourg. Add to this our preferential loading arrangement and we can extend that to five a week. “In addition there are exciting prospects awaiting us in the seafreight sector where we now include Renfreight’s expertise. We are now better placed geographically to deal with matters at City Deep.”
