THE PROVISION of new equipment and services at Beira is continuing, as confidence of both users and investors increases.
The main developments recently are:
l New container control logistics between office and yard.
l Road weighbridge with a length of 28 metres is installed.
l New multipurpose Volvo pay-loader arrived
l A new and more effective shunting tractor Unilok The new unit is specially designed for shunting wagons in theport area.
l Two new generators have been installed for emergency power supply with capacities of 110 KVA and 1600 KVA, respectively. The smaller generator with 110 KVA capacity is installed to serve the administration building (keep the computer system and illumination). The 1600 KVA generator is able to maintain the port operations (2 gantry cranes, illumination of the port, reefer park, citrus terminal and 3 general cargo cranes).
l Four grabs of 3 cubic metres each to handle bulk cargo.
l Four new hoppers for loading of bulk cargo into railway wagons.
l Rehabilitation of three gantry cranes should be finished at end of January 2001.
l Additional container and granite handling equipment being acquired.
l The city is connected through a cellular phone network.
