KEVIN MAYHEW THE TRANSPORT of containers to and from Lesotho has been complicated by the drop-off in textile movement as well as new entrants coming into the local customs clearing, transport and ship’s agency market. But on the positive side, shipping lines have been supporting established smaller operators, says managing director of Triangle Freight Elvis Thibilisi, whose company offers transport from Lesotho to Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban. “We usually use road, but have used rail where it has been necessary or cost effective. However, one of the major threats is small operators entering the market and upsetting realistic pricing. We have established services and infrastructure to provide a competitive and reliable service,” he says. Another problem he highlighted was companies clearing in South Africa so that Lesotho based companies do not benefit.
