THE RECENT opening of a warehouse in the Jacobs/Mobeni area of Durban has broadened the service scope of Rennies Distribution Services. “We can now collect cargo from the port, return it to our facility, unpack the cargo, consolidate and deconsolidate loads, reload the cargo and transport it to the customer or vice versa, regardless of size, weight, shape or contents,” says RDS marketing and sales director Trevor Shevil. “As a result, local and long-distance distribution is more efficient and controlled.” The new warehouse is geared for the unpacking and packing of containers directly from the floor and loading ramps, while cargo can also be worked on straddled and centre-mounted carriers. The facility’s main focus is heavy boxes, 32 ton, 6m and 12m² containers carrying both palletised and breakbulk cargo. “The company has a well established track record of providing warehousing and distribution services to various industries,” says Shevil. “Our chemical facilities position us to provide compliant warehouse space and logistics services nationally to existing and prospective customers meeting legislative regulations, International Maritime Goods Code standards and transport fleet compliance. There are not many companies in our industry that have a national footprint comprising fully compliant warehouses and distribution fleets.” Due to the ever-increasing demand for safety compliance in warehousing and transportation, RDS is a signatory to the Responsible Care Charter and is committed to ensuring that its operations are compliant with legislative requirements for safety, health and the environment, Shevil added. “The changes in service demands, in particular by the chemical industry over recent years, have influenced the company’s strategy for providing comprehensive logistics solutions.” The company has invested significantly in the development of innovative operational and IT control systems as well as quality equipment and staff training, says Shevil. “Our fanatical attention to detail methodology has resulted in the achievement of various industry and safety compliance certifications.”
